Surprise Sunset Proposal at Currumbin Beach
A few weeks ago, an enquiry dropped into my inbox from Lia – all the way from the UK. She wanted to propose to her partner Sasha on a Gold Coast beach during their upcoming Christmas holiday. I could barely contain my excitement!
We had just over a month to plan the when, where and how Lia was going to propose to the love of her life.
Bringing the plan to life
Firstly, we spoke about logistics. Lia wanted a quieter beach option, but it had to be within a reasonable distance from their accommodation so Sasha wouldn’t get suspicious.
After scouting a few options, I gave her some potential locations to consider and we settled on Currumbin Beach during sunset.
A far cry from the hustle of Surfers Paradise, Currumbin offers more relaxed vibes and a local crowd. The contrast of the beach and rock textures also adds so much diversity to a photo gallery.

We also made plans for Lia to book a balcony table at Tommy’s Italian Restaurant for dinner, that way a sunset beach walk before hand wouldn’t seem out of place.
The plan was set. Proposal, engagement shoot, dinner.
Lia’s final timeline looked like this;
– 5:00pm Photographer arrives at Currumbin
– 5:30pm-5:45pm Lia & Sasha arrive at Currumbin
– 5:50pm Proposal (video)
– 6:00pm Engagement Session (photos)
– 7:00pm Photo wrap up
– 7:30pm Dinner at Tommy’s

The Proposal – She said Yes!
It’s hard to describe how perfect Lia & Sasha’s day ended up becoming. The days leading up to the planned date were overcast and hot but the clouds cleared and we had the most fantastic sunset.
I was sitting incognito on the beach with my 70-200 zoom lens to capture their moment on video, and then we met up afterwards to walk the beach and take some amazing evening sunset shots – followed by a champagne pop! It was magical, sweet, honest and full of love.
